Unveiling Brilliance: Business Lessons from “MJ – The Musical” Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue 600

As the lights dimmed and the first notes of “Beat It” echoed through the theater, I knew I was about to experience something extraordinary. “MJ – The Musical,” portraying the life and music of Michael Jackson, was more than a musical; it was a journey through the legacy of the King of Pop.

My wife and I just returned from watching the MJ show. What amazed me was:

  • The incredible talent on stage. The energy and precision of the dancers were astounding, with their creative moves showcasing iconic Michael Jackson choreography.
  • The remarkable vocal talents. Not only did the performers have beautiful, unique voices, but they also captured MJ’s distinct sound and emotions. The energy on stage was thrilling and engaging, making the entire audience, including us, sway and move to the music.
  • The magic of professionalism. This was evident in the impeccable execution, flawless choreography, and seamless timing and transitions.
  • Dedication to excellence. Years of rigorous training were apparent in this top-notch production.
  • The visionaries behind the scenes. The directors, choreographers, writers, and producers who envisioned this celebration of Michael Jackson’s legacy were instrumental in its success. The costumes, stage design, and overall production were remarkable.

So, what business parallels can we draw for our businesses?

  • Focus on professionalism, talent, and creativity. Just as the performers excelled through their talents, we must leverage our unique skills, gifts and creativity.
  • Meticulous attention to detail. Excellence in operations comes from a keen focus on the details.
  • Investing in training and development. Continuous improvement is essential to maintaining a competitive edge.
  • Team synergy. Each team member plays a crucial role in achieving our goals. The combined power of great talent and visionary leadership drives innovation and success.
  • Strong brand identity and visual appeal. Creating a compelling brand is vital for attracting and retaining clients.
  • Embracing technology and innovation. Effective marketing strategies generate buzz and help businesses thrive.

I’m reminded of the powerful message in one of Michael Jackson’s most iconic songs, “Man in the Mirror.” Just as the song urges us to make a change and reflect on ourselves, our businesses too can benefit from introspection and a commitment to increase the value we provide and to achieving excellence.

By embracing professionalism, nurturing talent, fostering visionary leadership, creating compelling visuals, and engaging effectively with our audience, our businesses can indeed make a transformative impact.

So, “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’?” Look in the mirror, take the time to introspect, and be inspired to develop the strategy and action plan needed to enthusiastically start something new and propel your business forward.
