Pragmatic Technologies for Life and Business Success®
That well known cliché was made famous in 1988 by Bobby McFerrin, when the renowned singer released the song on his fourth album, Simple Pleasures. It was sung a cappella, with all sounds including whistling mastered and woven by McFerrin alone. Another chartbuster, Happy, by Pharell Williams, was released in 2013, from the soundtrack of Despicable Me 2. Both of these upbeat and uplifting tunes are truly unforgettable and actually help one feel “happy.”
I recently watched an interview with Dr. Robert Waldinger who shares the secret to a happy life. Happiness doesn’t just happen he says but is based on using tools that increase and strengthen connections with people and create warm relationships. He claims that these warm relationships that are formed, nurtured and sustained from weeks, months and years are the foundations for not only the feeling of happiness and contentment but also physical well-being and mental sharpness.
He explains that in our busy lives we often don’t leave enough time for relationship or friendship building and find ourselves lonely and physically weakened and mentally tired. This got me to thinking once again about life balance and ways in which I can put necessary time into business ventures and still carve out enough time for pleasure, friends and of course, pickleball.
Who are the people in your life that you have created strong bonds with and on whom you can call in a time of crisis or need? Making friendship a priority will reap great benefits in health, wellness, and happiness. It’s in our power and control to create our own happiness and joy by reaching out to others and working just as hard on that as we do on our business and really being happy!
