It was June 1977, just a couple of months after completing my mandatory three-year military service with the Israel Defense Forces. With a deep love for Rock and Roll and Jazz, I had always dreamed of visiting the US. Finally, I got the opportunity to travel as a representative of Israel to work at a summer camp in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.
It was there that I first met Laurel. Our shared love for music and Israel created an instant connection. Was it love at first sight? Absolutely! At the end of that summer, I had to return to Israel, but we stayed connected through aerograms. Yes, no Internet or emails back then.
In November 1977, a historic event occurred: Anwar Sadat, the President of Egypt, visited Israel for the first time, which eventually led to a peace treaty between the two countries. As his plane landed in Tel-Aviv, my phone rang. It was Laurel, her voice filled with excitement. As we shared the moment, it rekindled our desire to see each other again.
So, in June 1978, I traveled back to the US, and a few months later, we decided to get engaged. We married a year later on June 12, 1979, which brings me to why I’m sharing this love story with you today.
Today, Laurel and I are celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. This milestone has given me an opportunity to reflect on the values and principles that have been integral to our lasting marriage. As I thought about our journey, I realized how much these same principles apply to the world of business and the relationships we build with our clients.
- Longevity and Sustained Success
Trust, consistent effort, and mutual respect have allowed our marriage to thrive. Similarly, in business, these principles enable us to build lasting client relationships and ensure long-term success.
- Power of Partnership
We discovered mutual interests and complementary strengths that created a strong partnership. In our business, we aim to form strong partnerships with our clients, impacting their growth and success.
- Agility
Raising a family brought great joy and some challenges, from career shifts to navigating life’s unexpected turns. Our ability to remain flexible, adaptable, and open to new solutions has been key to our success. Likewise, in business, embracing change, continuous learning, strategic adjustments, and investing in our team are essential.
- Overcoming Adversities
Like many couples, we faced challenges and adversities. In business, our strong beliefs, tenacity, resilience, courage, and resolve help us navigate through tough times and emerge stronger.
- Communication
Open and honest communication is vital in maintaining a healthy relationship and fostering growth. In business, effective communication is crucial for aligning team goals and promoting a collaborative work environment.
- Celebration
Reaching 45 years of marriage is a testament to the love, commitment, and hard work that Laurel and I have invested in our relationship. We make it a point to celebrate our achievements, big and small, which help strengthen our bond. In our business, recognizing and celebrating our achievements, sharing success stories, and reflecting on milestones are critical for future growth and direction.
- Passion
Our shared passion for music and life has been the driving force in our relationship. Passion fuels our enthusiasm, keeps our bond strong, and makes our journey together simply beautiful. Beyond music, our love for the state of Israel has been a significant part of our lives. Laurel’s dedication to Jewish studies and pursuing her clergy career as a spiritual leader, exemplifies her commitment and passion. Meanwhile, pursuing my career in software development, technology, the internet, AI, and marketing, as well as music, photography, and even pickleball reflect my diverse passions that keep me inspired and driven. In business, passion is a key driver of innovation and excellence. Being passionate about our work inspires us and our team, drives our commitment to our clients, and leads to outstanding results.
As we celebrate this personal milestone, I encourage you to reflect on the values and principles that drive your business success. Whether it’s the longevity of relationships, the power of partnership, agility in the face of change, overcoming adversities, effective communication, celebrating achievements, pursuing our passion, these principles are the foundation of sustained success.
To quote Nelson Mandela, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Let’s continue to take action and build on these principles and achieve great things together.
Yours,
Chad
